Jornadas Técnicas «ITA–AITES Executive Council Meeting – Madrid 2026» (2ª COMUNICACIÓN)

As part of our annual programme of activities, we at AETOS are organising this year’s first technical conference «ITA–AITES Executive Council Meeting – Madrid 2026 in partnership with the Comunidad de Madrid and SECEGSA

The Thursday Technical Session introduces key themes that frame ongoing discussions within the international tunnelling community. Topics include recent technical developments related to the Gibraltar Tunnel, the work of ITA Working Group 17 on Lifelines, and a broader reflection on the cultural and symbolic significance of underground space, presented through the book “El túnel: mito, símbolo y arte.” This book will be published shortly before the event, allowing participants to access it for the first time during the meeting. Together, these contributions highlight the diversity and depth of expertise that characterise the field of underground engineering.
This meeting forms a central part of the ITA–AITES Executive Council activities in Madrid and represents an exceptional opportunity to exchange experiences, share capabilities, and strengthen the connections that unite the tunnelling community. Bringing together ITA–AITES representatives, international experts, and the tunnelling and underground construction organisations that make up AETOS in Spain, the gathering aims to foster a collaborative environment with a strong international perspective. It reinforces our collective commitment to global integration within the tunnelling sector, while creating a shared space for reflection on current trends, challenges, and future directions in underground engineering
