ACCIONA, S.A.Biography
History
ACCIONA, a pioneer in development and sustainability in Spain.
ACCIONA is one of Spain's leading business corporations, a leader in the development and management of infrastructures, renewable energies, water and services. It is listed on the selective Ibex-35 stock market index and is a benchmark company in the market. With more than a century of experience, it has more than 30,000 employees and a presence in more than 30 countries on five continents.
Corporate video
ACCIONA has consolidated the reinvention of this great Company. Less than a decade ago, it was one of Spain's leading construction companies, immersed in a process of diversification and the search for international business opportunities. In 2008, and following the exit of Endesa in 2009, ACCIONA completed its transformation into a pioneering company in development and sustainability, becoming a global leader in the development, production and management of renewable energies, water and infrastructure, with the lowest environmental impact.
This trajectory would not have been possible without its pioneering tradition. Not for nothing was it the first merger in the Spanish construction market and, during the 1990s, it was also the first non-utility to adopt a strategy based on renewable energies.
In 2004, José Manuel Entrecanales was appointed Chairman, leading the transformation of the Company towards three pillars of growth: infrastructures, energy and water. This change was reinforced in 2005 with an innovative positioning strategy based on the orientation of these businesses towards sustainable development with a strong global vocation. This profound transformation has also been possible thanks to the enormous investment effort, a firm commitment to innovation and social commitment as a creator of quality employment.
Its positioning as a pioneer in development and sustainability expresses its capacity to respond to the challenge of achieving sustainable development through all its areas of activity. One of its specific commitments is to gradually reduce its climate footprint and lead the transition to a low-carbon economy. ACCIONA's activities and businesses avoided the emission of 13.97 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere in 2012, 19.4% more than in the previous year.
