PRESENTATION

This document is part of the Technical Guides that AETOS intends to produce through "ad hoc" working groups. In this case it is the Guide on "Instrumentation and Auscultation in the Design and Construction of Urban Tunnels". The aim is to bring together the extensive experience gained in Spain, through a large number of urban tunnel works carried out in Madrid (for the Metro, for the City Council and for the General Directorate of Railways), Barcelona (for Line 9 of the Metro), Seville (Metro), Malaga (Metro and penetration of the L.A.V.), Granada (Light Railway) and many other transport and hydraulic works in other cities.

For this purpose, various technicians, representatives of the University, ADIF and private companies have been involved in these works, and it is therefore considered that the information included in the Guide represents the aforementioned experience.

As chairman of the working group, I would like to express my thanks to the members of the Group and, especially, to the Speakers who have participated in the preparation of the Guide, as well as to the Directorate General of Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, ADIF, the Asociación Nacional de Auscultación y Sistemas de Gestión Técnica de Infraestructuras (AUSIGETI), Metro de Madrid, Geocisa, Gloztl, Leica, Roctest Telemac, Inmateinsa, Intemac, Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA), British Tunnelling Society, Soldata, Rodio Kronsa, Itmsoil, Soil Instruments, etc. for permission to use some of their figures.
