For the sixth consecutive year, AETOS is publishing a special issue on tunnels with the Public Works Magazine (ROP) of the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (Association of Civil Engineers), with which it has an agreement for the dissemination of major infrastructure projects involving tunnels and underground works.

The Madrid Model is analysed by Fernándo Díez and Carlos Oteo in a conscientious work focused on the estimation of the settlement produced in tunnels executed with large diameter EPB TBMs; Rafael Jiménez and Salvador Senent study the stability of the excavation face in heterogeneous terrain; the article by Susana López, "Seismic design of tunnels" is of unquestionable interest for projects in unstable areas from the seismological point of view; Manuel Romana reflects on the diversion tunnels of the La Yesca dam in Mexico, while Felipe Mendaña contributes an extensive article on the Bolaños tunnels as part of the AVE access to Galicia, perhaps the most representative underground work being carried out in Spain today; Davor Simic analyses the relationship between tunnel boring machine face pressure and induced seating, and finally César Fernández Nespral, Pedro Sola and Carlos Oteoresumethe rehabilitation work on the Nievares tunnels (Asturias).

All these works are of great interest and usefulness for professionals who want to keep their knowledge of underground works up to date, perhaps the one with the most viable future, due to its sustainability and the astonishing progress in the development of new technologies.

AETOS makes a copy of the Monograph available to its members.. To receive it, all you have to do is ask for it to be sent by post (postage on delivery) to: or pick it up at the Association's headquarters at c/ Jenner 3, 1º dcha. 28010 Madrid.
