Laureano Cornejo Álvarez, new Honorary Member of Spanish Association of Tunnels and Underground Works

On 22 June, during the annual AETOS Conference , our Association will pay tribute to one of its most distinguished members: Laureno Cornejo Álvarez, who will be awarded the medal of Honorary Member.

We take this opportunity to offer a brief biographical sketch that Laureano himself includes in his "New Technologies and Materials" Blog, a web space dedicated to Nanotechnology, new construction materials and new construction technologies applied to underground works, which shows the deep commitment and dedication of our Honorary Member to the profession.


Laureano Cornejo Sanz

 "Laureano Cornejo was born in Madrid, where he studied engineering at the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros de Minas.

He has dedicated his professional life to tunnels and underground works, both in the construction phase, from an important construction company, and in the project and supervision phase from his engineering company.

He founded and directed the engineering company Geoconsult España for twenty years, where he was very active in the design and supervision of underground, railway, road and hydraulic tunnels, especially between 1998 and 2011, when infrastructures in Spain underwent major development and modernisation.

He is the author of several technical publications including the books "Excavación Mecánica de Túneles" and "Manual de túneles de carretera".

His teaching activity has been directed towards his participation as a lecturer in the Master's Degree in Tunnels, taught at the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Madrid, and as a collaborator for twenty years in the Geotechnical Courses at the Escuela de Ingenieros Técnicos de Linares, belonging to the University of Jaén.

He has also participated in numerous national and international seminars and has given numerous lectures related to tunnel construction technology.

He is a member of the Spanish Tunnel Association, of which he has been a member of the board of directors as secretary.

Nowretired, he is dedicated to the study and development of new building materials, such as fibre-reinforced concretes, and to the improvement of their strength and durability properties, in the light of the enormous possibilities offered by nanotechnology in the years to come".
