EXPERT IN THE PLANNING AND DESIGN, AND/OR IN THE MANAGEMENT AND EXECUTION OF THE WORK
The aim of the Master's Degree in Tunnels and Underground Works is to provide students who successfully complete the course with training in tunnelling and undergroundworks.
This training allows access to the technical professional world, in its planning and project facets, and/or in the management and execution of works.
An additional objective is to complete the training of both professionals already working in tunnels and those wishing to engage in research and/or teaching.
UNED'S OWN DEGREE WITH ITA RECOGNITION
The Master's Degree is currently a degree of the UNED. National University of Distance Education (UNED), with an equivalence of 60 ECTS (European Credit System, according to the European Higher Education Area) and is recognised by the ITA(International Tunnelling Association).
This Master Course has an important international projection through the collaboration with the Sister Associations Members of ITA, especially those with development in Spanish-speaking countries, such as: ACTOS, APTOS etc. with which AETOS has collaboration agreements.

In Spain, the training is sponsored by numerous entities such as the Ministry of Public Works, CEDEX, ADIF, ETS and the main international construction and civil engineering companies ACCIONA, DRAGADOS, FERROVIAL, OHL, TYPSA, GEOCISA, etc.

Development of the Master
The course is divided into TEN MODULES: nine theoretical-practical modules, covering all the theoretical, technological and practical aspects necessary for the design and construction of tunnels and underground works, and one module for the completion of a dissertation.
The content of the Master's is subject to annual updates, which are approved by the Teaching Committee, at the proposal of the Director of the Master's and of each Module.
The face-to-face course will be developed through:
- Clases teóricas, impartidas en la sede central de AETOS situada en el Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (Almagro 42).
- Clases prácticas, que se impartirán en centros académicos y empresas de reconocido prestigio acorde con cada uno de los módulos.
- Viajes de prácticas para tratar in situ los aspectos más relevantes de los proyectos.
- Elaboración de una Tesina en la que el alumno estará acompañado de un tutor que deberá ser defendida ante el tribunal académico que corresponda.
- Módulo 1 – Bases de la Geología y Geotecnia en el Proyecto y la Construcción de Túneles.
- Module 2 - Regulations and Functional Criteria.
- Module 3 - Design and Construction of Tunnels using Classical and NATM Methods.
- Module 4 - Opencast Tunnels.
- Module 5 - Design and Construction of Tunnels using Tunnelling Machines.
- Module 6 - Ground Treatments in Tunnels and Instrumentation.
- Module 7 - Numerical Methods for Tunnel Design and Construction.
- Module 8 - Inspection, maintenance and repair of tunnels.
- Module 9 - Facilities, Health and Safety, etc.
- Module 10 - Master's thesis
Modular structure. Flexibility for all
The Modular Structure allows students to adapt the pace of the course to their professional and/or personal practice, offering the possibility of taking the course continuously or by modules, over five years, or enrolling in those of greatest interest to their professional speciality.
Adicionalmente el Máster permite compaginar la formación por módulos de forma presencial y/o online. Pudiendo el alumno compaginar (nunca simultáneamente) las metodologías en base a sus necesidades.
Students who successfully complete the Master's Degree in Tunnels and Underground Works will be included in the exclusive Aetos database, which manages job offers from member companies and those who consult the Association in search of specialised professionals.
The Master in its Presential edition is taught from Monday to Friday from 16.30 to 20:15 in the facilities of the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos in the classrooms of the Casa de la Ingeniería, Calle Jenner 3, bajo.
